The Portimão rollercoaster welcomed the MotoGP circus with two days plagued by rain and wind. Our own Espargaró, however, was able to capitalise on the dry first qualifying session to put in a strong performance that earned him the third fastest time.
Starting from the first row is half the battle. That’s right, isn’t it? Not always. A less than perfect start and a tussle with an aggressive Alex Marquez were enough to force Aleix into seventh place at the end of the first lap: with everything to do again, nothing can go wrong.
It was here that the no. 41 began to lap steadily at a faster pace than the riders ahead of him, so much so that he caught up with the group fighting for podium positions…
