Racers’ guide to Tokyo 2020

It’s been a long wait, but the most prestigious multi-sport event in the world is finally back. After five years – instead of the usual four – from the Rio de Janeiro edition, the 32nd Olympic Games will be held in Japan, starting on 23 July, with the closing ceremony set for 8 August.

It’s going to be an unusual edition in many respects, but it will try as never before to capture the attention of those who, like us, expect adrenaline rushes when watching sports from the sofa at home (otherwise, it’s better to turn off the TV and open the throttle!).

As regards the new elements of Tokyo 2020 – which, as the name suggests, should have been held last summer – there are four new sports that have received the coveted recognition of Olympic sport for the first time, and two that, like meteors, are returning to the five-circle programme, though already knowing that they won’t be able to participate in the next Olympics in Paris 2024…
