Once upon a time, in a galaxy not too far away, there was the Motomondiale: a world championship in which motorbikes raced that still produced smoke, spreading the smell (some would say perfume) of castor oil from the exhaust. At that time a manufacturer well known to us was sweeping all the world titles, extending its fame throughout the world.
Joking aside, perhaps some of us are too young to have experienced in person those races between the late ’90s and the first decade of the 2000s, but many will remember that until 2009, the last year of the 250 class, and 2011, the last for the 125, Aprilia was the undisputed star of the two lower categories of the world speed championships.
But the story doesn’t end there, because the House of the Lion of St. Mark did not just catapult the riders who at the time were approaching the world championships to the major classes, but also organized activities at the national level as well, where it was highly active in promoting speed races as well as training riders who were starting from scratch.
These single-brand trophies are true testimonies of Aprilia’s historic commitment as a school for young champions, which today is reflected in the Aprilia Sport Production 2020 Italian Championship. So history repeats itself with a juicy new opportunity for aspiring riders…
